Reviews of The 5 Best ASA Slowpitch Softball Bats for 2016-2017
Anyway, here’s our final list of bats you can confidently step up to the plate with. All the bats we looked at are ASA certified, so you are sure you can play with them in almost any league in the US and around the world.
1. DeMarini 2016 Flipper Aftermath OG
It is not surprising that a DeMarini bat would take the top cake. In particular, the Flipper Aftermath OG has all the working details you need to put any pitcher to shame.
Even when playing balls with a high Coefficient or restitution (COR) like a .47 or a .52, the 13” divergence barrel will never disappoint. The barrel has two composite layers with an air gap in between. This really increases the trampoline effect.
The Flipper Aftermath OG’s handle is made out of alloy with very little flex effect, which in turn increases the force of impact over the barrel’s sweet spot. The concave dish end cap reliably concentrates the force of your swing at the barrel, driving energy to the sweet spot.
2. 2016 Miken DC-41 Supermax
Miken is always at the forefront of bat innovation and their supermax DC-41 is their latest in the Denny Crine signature series. In this series, the leading bat producer gets together with the best home run hitter, Denny “Grand Slam” Crine, to make the best performing bats.
Made from the same materials NASA makes its space shuttles with, you have a tough bat which is still lightweight and great for the fluid motion of your swing. This reduces the lag while maximizing power and increasing the hit distance.
This material expands by up to 5% to increase the sweet spot, by virtue of the Triple Matrix Corea technology. The barrel experiences superb flex to improve the range and speed of the barrel, thus increasing your hitting power.
If you need a bat that hits deep in the outfield and comes ready for play right off the wrapper, the Supermax DC-41 is for you. It has just the right pop, and the larger sweet spot gives you a winner’s attitude.
3. Easton SP16BWA Raw Power Brian Wegman
Brian Wegman has been a softball champion in a career that span several decades, with some of his most recent accolades include being crowned 2013 Border Battle Champion and 2013 Slow Pitch Showdown Champion. It is this expertise that he brings to Easton to deliver to you the Raw Power series.
The Easton SP16BWA is a fabulous one-piece composite bat with a 12” end-loaded barrel. This fantastic design increases the force impact and energy transfer from barrel to ball, driving your ball further. Apart from maximizing power, the one-piece design also enhances your bat control.
The bat’s handle is superbly comfortable and is covered with a very thin layer of gauze, giving you that firm swing grip. This grip also locks out the aftershocks from travelling through to your hands.
If you like a bat that has some mass on the barrel and increased control, then the Easton SP16BWA should be your first choice.
4. Worth HD52 SBH52A ASA Balanced
The worth brand is known for its magnificent pieces and the SBH52A is one of the best we ever come across. The Worth SBH52A is a wonderful one-piece composite made for top performance when played against a COR .52/300 ball.
The three-walled barrel made with tri-seamless technology tremendously optimizes compression and the trampoline effect.
The SBH52A has a comfortable balanced loading feel to it and the one-piece design makes it highly durable.
The graphics are fantastic, but only when the bat is new. The paint work chips off real quick but any hitter knows that will never influence performance. The bat has a reinforce 360 end cap which further extends your bat’s durability.
This is a perfect bat for any league that allows composite bats. It has great value for money, with a friendly piece tag compared to other bats in the same performance league. It has been thoroughly tested and approved for use in ASA.
5. 2016 Team Combat Bryce Oliveira ASA
What do you get when you bring together a lightning-fast hitter and a premium quality brand? You get the Team Combat WNBSP4 softball bat. 2012 ASA Class A Champion, Bryce Oliviera, is all about speed, comfortable bats, and distance.
The Team Combat WNBSP4 comes hot out of the wrapper and needs no elaborate breaking in. The two-piece design increases flex, giving the ball that extra momentum on each hit.
The two-piece is a combination of an extra-stiff and light handle joined to an over-extended durable barrel. The Precision molding and seamless construction technology provides the extra benefit of producing a large sweet spot.
The handle is made using the Handle Isolation Technology that stops aftershocks of ball impact from reaching the hand. This model’s handle has a more advanced handle system with stiffness almost 20% greater than the 2015 version.
The transition between the handle and the barrel is a small ridge rather than the highly visible rubber connection point noticeable in previous models. The bat’s ultra-premium lizard skin grip offers a comfortable feel with zero-slip.
